HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SCUBA GEAR

05/16/2024

When you decide to choose your diving equipment you must invest above all in safety and comfort.

Choosing the right scuba gear wisely will save you money for your education and wonderful diving trips. There are 4 principles that apply to the purchase of almost all equipment.

1. Don't risk safety: New and experienced divers alike need appropriate equipment. The equipment is correct or it is not. Avoid buying old or under-maintained equipment. If you choose your diving equipment carefully, it will give you years of service.

2. Comfort: usually the most comfortable equipment is the safest. If you feel comfortable with your equipment it will be easier for you to relax and enjoy the wonders of the underwater world. On the other hand, uncomfortable divers are more susceptible to stress and mistakes. A good fit will allow a good performance especially in masks, fins and BCD.

3. Available service: some parts of the equipment such as instruments, cylinders and regulators require specialized service periodically. Before investing in some parts of the equipment ask yourself ... this dealer can give me the necessary service? Do you have the necessary parts, training and tools to offer this service? Are there comparable services available in popular diving destinations? ... if the answer is "yes" to these questions invest with confidence, otherwise better invest in another piece of equipment.

4. Professional advice: being able to measure and test your equipment in diving facilities will help you in your selection. Prepare the equipment before use New items such as masks and straps need to be adjusted and cleaned before use. Most manufacturers coat their products with silicone and rubber and unless you remove them these products can cause the straps to slip or the masks to fog more than normal. The preparation also includes marking the equipment, identifying them will do your job of packing and checking the equipment prior to a much more efficient trip.
